God Will Provide

⏱️ 2 minutes.

Good morning, friends,

Today, let’s delve into the story of Abraham and Isaac:

And He said, ‘Do not stretch out your hand against the boy, and do nothing to him; for now I know that you fear God, since you have not withheld your son, your only one, from Me.’ Then Abraham lifted up his eyes and saw, and behold, there was a ram after it had been caught in the thicket by its horns; and Abraham went and took the ram and offered it up for a burnt offering in the place of his son.

Genesis 22:12-13

We join the narrative right after God intervened to prevent Abraham from sacrificing Isaac. In verse 12, we witness God’s purpose: to test Abraham’s obedience, even with something as precious as his only son. Abraham’s willingness to sacrifice Isaac echoes his obedience in leaving his homeland at God’s command. Subsequently, Abraham names the place ‘God will provide.’ Notably, God provides the ram as a substitute for Isaac. This foreshadows God offering His own son, Jesus, as a sacrifice for humanity’s redemption.

Like Abraham, there are moments when God requires our all. We may hesitate to surrender what we hold dear, but God ultimately provides. “Therefore I exhort you, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a sacrifice—living, holy, and pleasing to God, which is your spiritual service of worship.” — Romans 12:1. Though daunting, Jesus makes this declaration, “Whoever seeks to keep his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life will preserve it.” — Luke 17:33 reminds us that surrendering to God leads to true life.

Practical steps:

  1. Identify areas of our lives not surrendered to Christ.
  2. Find assurance that as we obey, God provides.
  3. Shift our perspective: God’s requests are opportunities for obedience, not deprivation.

May these words bless you,

Blessings, Paul.
