Confidence To Order | Philemon 8

⏱️ < 1 minute.

In this episode, we arrive at a striking moment in Paul’s letter. As he prepares to make his appeal on behalf of Onesimus, Paul pauses to acknowledge something significant — he has the authority in Christ to simply command Philemon to do what is right. His apostolic confidence is not in himself, but in Christ. Yet Paul does not lead with his authority. He names it, sets it aside, and chooses a different path entirely. This tension between authority and love sets the stage for everything that follows in the letter.

“Therefore, though I have enough confidence in Christ to order you to do what is proper…”
— Philemon 8 (NASB 1995)

Amen. Christ IS love. He leads with and leads in love, and so should we, both in the cjurch and outside as we are CHRIST’s children, ambassadors, representers. We have an obligation to represent HIM well.
If you have a position of authority your mandate is greater as it states in Luke 12:48. “For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required.”
There is Grace if we err in living up to it but we must understand the gravity oof our gifting and use them well in the Lord’s service.💝✨️

Spot on. Humility is the best remedy because it shifts the focus from ‘who is right’ to ‘what is right.’ Real leaders don’t need to bleed authority; they build trust.
