Greetings, beloved,
Today, let’s reflect on another reason for gratitude:
“At midnight, I rise to give thanks to You for Your righteous judgments.”
Psalm 119:62
The psalmist expresses gratitude for God’s works in his life. He reflects on God’s ways, which prompt him to turn towards the Lord’s testimonies:
“I considered my ways and turned my feet to Your testimonies.”
Psalm 119:59
Reflecting on God’s ways leads to immediate correction and alignment with His testimonies. The psalmist’s gratitude extends to giving thanks to God even in the darkest hours.
The psalmist’s reason for thankfulness lies in God’s righteous judgments. Despite our default view of judgment as negative, the psalmist sees God’s judgments as righteous and worthy of gratitude.
To share in the psalmist’s perspective, we must first acknowledge God’s holiness (Isaiah 6:3) and the righteousness of His judgments, which are free from error and partiality.
For those who realize their inability to attain salvation on their own and acknowledge their sinfulness, salvation comes through repentance and faith in Jesus Christ:
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
John 3:16
Believers celebrate God’s righteous judgments because they offer salvation, not condemnation:
“There is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.”
Romans 8:1
Practical steps to embrace the psalmist’s joy:
- Experience spiritual rebirth: “You must be born again” (John 3:7). Repent, turn to Jesus Christ, and believe in His life, death, burial, and resurrection.
- Cultivate continual gratitude: “In everything give thanks, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” — 1 Thessalonians 5:18 — Regardless of circumstances, be thankful for salvation.
- Recall God’s righteous judgments: “Understand that whatever comes to pass is ordained by God” — Trust in God’s sovereignty, knowing that His judgments are just, even when circumstances are unclear (Isaiah 45:7).
May this message enrich your spirit.
Blessings, Paul.
