The Wicked And The God-fearing

⏱️ 2 minutes.

Hey there beloved of God,

Today, let’s delve into Solomon’s reflections on life.

Although a sinner does evil a hundred times and may prolong his life, still I know that it will be well for those who fear God, who fear Him openly. But it will not be well for the wicked man, and he will not prolong his days like a shadow, because he does not fear God openly.

Ecclesiastes 8:12-13

Solomon paints a vivid picture of the contrasting outcomes for the wicked and the God-fearing. While the wicked may seem to thrive momentarily, their end is bleak. They may prolong their days, but ultimately, their path leads to darkness. On the other hand, those who openly fear God find lasting goodness and blessings.

Let’s dissect these groups:

The wicked:

  • They persist in evil deeds.
  • They shun the fear of God.
  • Their days are fleeting, like a passing shadow.
  • Their end is not prosperous.

The God-fearing:

  • They openly honor and respect God.
  • Their path is one of righteousness and well-being.

Despite the allure of the wicked’s lifestyle, Solomon reminds us of the futility of envy. He underscores the importance of:

  • Watchfulness: To resist the temptation of following the wicked’s ways.
  • Persistence: To remain steadfast in goodness, knowing that a reward awaits.
  • Reward: For those who faithfully fear God, blessings abound. “And let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we will reap if we do not grow weary.” — Galatians 6:9

May this reflection encourage us to continue in our reverence for God in all aspects of life.

Blessings,
