In this episode, we come to the final part of God’s message in this section of Haggai’s prophecy. Here, the Lord reminds His people that all the silver and gold belong to Him—a powerful statement that their lack of material wealth or resources would never limit His ability to accomplish His purpose.
God then gives them a glorious promise: the latter house will be greater than the former. This points not only to the physical restoration of the temple but also to the coming of Christ, in whom the fullness of God’s glory and peace would dwell.
“The silver is mine, and the gold is mine, saith the Lord of hosts.
The glory of this latter house shall be greater than of the former, saith the Lord of hosts: and in this place will I give peace, saith the Lord of hosts.”
— Haggai 2:8–9 (KJV)
