In this episode, we look at the Lord’s call for His people to reflect on their past experiences—to “consider carefully” what life was like before they began rebuilding the temple.
Through the prophet Haggai, God reminds them that despite all their hard work—planting, harvesting, and striving—they never saw the fruit they hoped for. Why? Because their priorities were misplaced. They had neglected the house of God, and as a result, He withheld blessing to draw their hearts back to Him.
It’s a powerful moment of reflection that reminds us that obedience to God always comes before abundance—and that He lovingly disciplines us to realign our hearts with His purpose.
“And now, I pray you, consider from this day and upward, from before a stone was laid upon a stone in the temple of the Lord:
Since those days were, when one came to an heap of twenty measures, there were but ten: when one came to the pressfat for to draw out fifty vessels out of the press, there were but twenty.
I smote you with blasting and with mildew and with hail in all the labours of your hands; yet ye turned not to me, saith the Lord.”
— Haggai 2:15–17 (KJV)
